BOTOX by Age: When, Where, & How Much?

Most of us can agree that for many years, we believed BOTOX was just for rich celebrities wanting to erase any sign of aging across their face after the age of 40. We’re here to tell you—that’s not the case. In reality, BOTOX has become much more accessible to patients of all backgrounds and ages. Because let’s be real: you don’t have to wait until you see deep lines. BOTOX isn’t one-size-fits-all and can offer a wide range of benefits at any age. You just need to know what to expect, how much to get, and where to get it.

BOTOX in Your 20s: Prevention Mode

Yes, it is becoming more common for patients in their 20s to receive BOTOX. While this may seem unnecessary from a surface level, it actually serves an interesting and useful purpose: preventative action.

By having BOTOX treatments starting in your 20s, patients can soften expression lines before they even begin to form, leading to a longer period of time before fine lines and wrinkles start showing. Most commonly, patients will receive injections in their forehead, between the brows, and around the crow’s feet. The main goal of these injections is not to go crazy and create a “frozen look” but instead, refine subtle concerns like fine lines while maintaining a natural appearance. That’s why the dosage for patients in their 20s is minimal, often referred to as “Baby BOTOX”. The treatment is more affordable and prolongs patients’ youthful appearance before more BOTOX or other treatments may be recommended.

BOTOX in Your 30s–40s: Early Correction + Maintenance

Aging is inevitable, and many of us agree that the signs begin to show in our 30s and 40s. This is the most common age to receive BOTOX. While more consistent lines and wrinkles start to appear, BOTOX focuses on softening and maintaining smoothness across the face, typically in the same areas that you’d receive BOTOX in your 20s. Many utilize BOTOX to correct bunny lines, smile lines, or neck bands, and in some cases, will add dermal fillers to add volume to the cheeks to maintain an overall youthful appearance. The units of BOTOX needed are more than those of your 20s, but it depends on how severe your concerns are, how your body responds to treatment, and your muscle strength. On average (and depending on how many areas need correcting), patients can expect between 30 and 60 units per session.

BOTOX in Your 50s–60s: Restorative & Smoothing

By your 50s and 60s, wrinkles and lines tend to be more established and pronounced. While it can be tricky to eliminate them completely, BOTOX can reduce their depth and prevent them from worsening. That’s why it’s important to keep realistic expectations about the treatment: BOTOX can do absolute wonders for the face, but at this age, it can’t erase deeper lines entirely. Rather, it helps smooth out the skin.

For patients in their 50s and 60s, it’s common to have full-face mapping done (e.g., chin dimpling, jawline slimming, neck bands) to correct multiple areas at once. Higher dosages of BOTOX will be needed to achieve the best results, but this really depends on your goals and how severe your concerns are. Since concerns with aging are most prevalent at this age, it may be recommended to combine your BOTOX with other non-invasive treatments like fillers, lasers, or skin-tightening treatments. Regardless, BOTOX can help refresh your appearance and bring back a more youthful, rested look.
