Acne Treatment Q&A

What is acne?

Acne is a common condition that causes your skin to become red and irritated. It occurs due to clogged hair follicles and pores. Many people think acne only affects teenagers, but it’s just as common in adults.

When left untreated, acne can negatively affect your confidence and self-esteem. It can also cause permanent skin damage and scarring. Fortunately, with prompt intervention, it’s possible to remedy and even reverse.

What are the symptoms of acne?

The symptoms of acne vary depending on the severity and your skin type. Telltale signs include:

  • Whiteheads
  • Blackheads
  • Small red, tender bumps
  • Pimples
  • Solid, painful lumps directly beneath the skin

As acne progresses, you might also experience painful pus-filled bumps known as cystic lesions.

How is acne diagnosed?

To diagnose acne, Ardis carefully examines your skin, reviews your medical history, and asks about your symptoms and lifestyle. Usually, a quick visual observation is enough to make a diagnosis. If Ardis suspects another underlying health problem is responsible for your acne, she might also order blood work or additional laboratory testing.

What is acne treatment?

At Revive Medical Spa, Ardis uses the long-pulsed 1064 nm Nd: YAG Laser for acne treatment. The technology uses infrared light to target water in your sebaceous glands. This heats up the glands causing them to shrink in size.

Compared to traditional Nd: YAG lasers, the long-pulsed 1064 nm uses less heat, making the treatment more comfortable. Laser treatment is safe for all skin types and requires no downtime or anesthesia.

Additionally, the laser’s multiple pulse technology provides better penetration, accessing deep pustules and cysts. This makes the treatment ideal for people with moderate or severe acne.

How long does it take to see the results of acne treatment?

Following acne treatment, it takes about six weeks to see visible results. The Nd: YAG laser triggers your body’s natural healing process, which takes some time. Be patient and make sure to attend all of your follow-up appointments. You’re sure to see improved skin tone and texture in no time.
